I was never a fan of reality television, and to this day only watch two reality shows, Survivor being one of them. Thus, I watched only one episode of The Australian Outback when it was on television. The first contestant voted off, Debb Eaton, lived in the next town over from where I grew up, so I tuned in to see how she did and after that, didn’t tune back.

And now after watching this fantastic DVD set, I am disappointed I didn’t keep watching. While I have seen only the three most recent seasons (All-Stars, Vanuatu and Palau) plus the DVD of the first season, I can understand why people who are big fans of this series consistently rank Survivor Australia as one of the best seasons ever. The perfect mix of people in a great environment led to a truly captivating series.

The second season provided some very memorable moments, moments that can probably be included among the very best in Survivor history. Of course there is the famous beef jerky incident where “aspiring actress” and resident evil woman Jerri Manthey accuses Army officer Kel Gleason of smuggling beef jerky. Who wasn’t thrilled for farmer-schoolteacher Rodger “Kentucky Joe” Bingham when he confronted his fear of heights and his lack of swimming ability by leaping off a huge cliff into the water below? I am sure everyone was happy for gourmet (yes I think he can cook rice) chef Keith Famie when he proposed to his girlfriend in a quick internet chat from the Outback and she said yes. His emotion was genuine as he grabbed Jeff Probst and hugged him. Of course, the incredible relationship between Kentucky Joe and young footwear designer Elisabeth Filarski was a unique one, but one that kept them together until the last few days. Jerri’s flirting with Colby Donaldson was amazingly pathetic, and it was actually funny to watch him as you knew he wasn’t even remotely interested. And who can forget Michael Skupin’s fall in the fire, the one move that essentially changed the game.

Of course, when Colby, the auto customizer from Texas, chose Tennessee mom Tina Wesson to join him in the final two, he assured he would finish second, but knew that Tina would be a deserving winner. This was a great moment in Survivor history, as a player put his friendship and alliance ahead of his own personal game. Not until Ian in Pulau did we see something quite like that again. It was a good move and Colby came out, although not with a million dollars, looking like the good guy.

Throw in some great characters, such as Maralyn “Mad Dog” Hershey, the retired cop from Virginia, Amber Brkich, the youngest of the group, who would go on to win the All-Stars edition, yet who in this edition was quite tentative, but hung tough, the conniving Jeff Varner who would start a battle between others and watch it brew, trainer Alicia Callaway and her finger-waving, and vegetarian Kimmi Kappenberg, the butt of much of Alicia’s finger waves and you have the makings of a great season.

By comparison to the seasons now, these Survivors were given a lot to help their survival and the challenges weren’t quite as difficult as the ones we have seen in the past few years, but they were still quite entertaining and it was great to see the original challenges that some of the newer seasons have used, or built off of.

The story of the season early on was the domination of Kucha at the challenges. They had Ogakor feeling down and depressed and it looked like, heading into the merge, that Kucha would have the numbers to just pick off Ogakor one-by-one. Then came Michael’s fall in the fire. When he was airlifted out of the game, Kucha lost their advantage and the planning by Ogakor came into play and they were successful, as the final three were all members of the original Ogakor. In the end, it was Colby’s domination that helped to push him to the finals, where he chose Tina to sit next to him and the rest is history.

There is a reason that five of these castaways (Alicia, Colby, Tina, Amber, Jerri) were chosen to participate in the All-Star version. This group of people was one of the finest casts assembled and the dynamics that came into play really made this season a joy to watch.

And of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Elisabeth one more time. In the first season, the incredibly beautiful Colleen Haskell became “America’s Sweetheart.” In this season, the incredibly cute Elisabeth took over that role. Her relationship with Rodger gave her a very real feel, and to anyone watching, she felt like she would be someone you would be friends with in the outside world.

The bonus features on this disc are very solid. There are six different commentary tracks, with two from Alicia, Kimmi and Michael (including the one where he falls in the fire), two from Keith, Rodger, Amber and Tina and two from Colby and Jeff Probst, who really began defining the role of realilty show host in this season. To this day, there is nobody who has that role down as well as he does. The two with Colby and Jeff are really, really good, while the others are very good and insightful. There are a couple of documentaries as well and the mid-season recap episode is included. Also included in the set is the previously released “Greatest and Most Outrageous Moments” which among other things features little bits on every Survivor and their time in the Outback.

On a personal note, I was watching that bonus disc and during the spot on Debb, they showed her sitting on her motorcycle on my mother’s front lawn, which happens to be right next to a covered bridge. It was pretty funny to see and took me by surprise.

So whether you’ve been a fan of the show since day one, or it something you are learning to like, this set is top-notch. You will not be disappointed. Now let’s hope they consider releasing more season sets.

I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a better season of Survivor than season number two. It not only had some of the most memorable contestants, but also some very memorable moments. This seasons would produce no fewer than five Survivor all-stars! I mean just look who was on season two from the Australian Outback:

Amber Brkich, one of the hottest women ever on Survivor who would go onto win Survivor All-stars and now competing in the Amazing Race.

Alicia Callaway: the Buff, brazen no-nonsense one who got into the famous finger waving match with Kimmi. A Survivor All-star.

Michael Skupin, who suffered one of the worst injuries in Survivor history when he fell into a fire and badly burned his hands.

Jerri Manthey: Probably the all time B*tch Queen of Survivor. Also a Survivor all-star.

Colby Donaldson: The hunky runner-up now turned actor. Another Survivor all-star.

Tina Wesson. The Winner. A Very HOT forty-something! Another All-star!

Elisabeth Filarski..now Elisabeth Hasselbeck of “The View”

Keith Famie, the much maligned chef who got engaged over the internet.

Rodger Bingham, the All-time good guy of Survivor!

This season really had it all. Great looking women and men, intrigue, romance, injuries and more. Who can forget Jerri accusing Kel of eating a hidden beef jerky in the second episode leading to Kel’s being voted off. Or what about Kimmi and Alicia getting into a fight over eating the chickens…

Later, Colby gets a reward to visit the coral reef and brings back coral for everyone which we find out is illegal in Australia. Then the tribe has their camp wiped out by a flood including all of their rice. And in one of Survivors all-time dumbest moves, when it came down to 3 final candidates, Colby voted out keith, instead of the more popular and univerally loved Tina, assuring that Tina would win the Million bucks!

What a great show and season!

Jacob, doing humanitarian work at an Indian children’s refuge, (the erstwhile “Casino Royale” villain, Mads Mikkelsen) doesn’t know what to think when his superior tells him that a prospective benefactor ( Rolf Lassgard in a heart wrenching performance as Jorgen) requires Jacob to return, after twenty years, to Denmark so that the refuge can receive a huge donation. So as much as Jacob dislikes the idea, and at this point we know not why, he returns to Denmark in Susanne Bier’s remarkable, emotionally charged, sometimes even overwrought “After the Wedding.”

Bier has composed this film in much the same way as a Verismo opera: scenes of confrontation, scenes of enlightenment, scenes of disclosure are piled one on top of the other as the film slithers insinuatingly towards its tragic yet redemptive denouement.

All of the main characters: Jacob, Jorgen, Jorgen’s wife Helene (Sidse Babett Knudsen in a mature, sexy performance) and Helene and Jorgen’s daughter, Anna (Stine Fischer Christiansen: young, fresh, committed) are transformed, turned around and pointed in another direction psychically and physically by film’s end due to the catastrophic upheavals that they endure during the course of this amazing film. Bier is dealing with Melodrama here, with a capital “M.” Melodrama done up right: not as a joke but as serious and humane as the Master’s of this genre: Almodovar and Douglas Sirk (”Written on the Wind”) to name a couple.

Mikkelsen’s Jacob, due in a large part to Mikkelsen’s hang-dog, stoic physical appearance, is an empty vessel at the beginning of this film. His work at the refuge is fulfilling and good yet you can’t help feeling that Jacob is hiding from life rather than contributing to it and that his reluctance to venture back home to Denmark is his way of primarily keeping his past at arm’s length. By the end, Jacob is transformed, filled up, overflowing by way of the redemptive powers of confession and acceptance: he’s been opened, upended, turned inside out.

Don’t come to Bier’s world of “After the Wedding” expecting to be lulled into anything resembling a calm, quiet mood…you will genuinely be unsettled. Do come to “After the Wedding,” in many ways similar to “The Celebration,” expecting to squirm in your seat, to have your guts wrenched with the terrific bravura acting of this ensemble of actors, to cry your eyes out at scenes of transcendental beauty and truth. This film will challenge you not to react and therefore in one way or another you will react due in large part to Bier’s compassionate mise en scene. A mise en scene rife with humanity and love.

`After the Wedding,’ Denmark’s “Best Foreign Picture” nominee for the Academy Awards has a lot going for it. Even if there is a soap opera feel to the scenes and the story, the quality is head and shoulders above any serial. Not to mention the fact we get six months of development in one movie. Solid performances, and camera shots that capture every revealing reaction give the story a magnetic interest.

The film begins in India where Jacob Pedersen (Mads Mikkelson) works with the impoverished. He feels at home with the children, but he goes back to Denmark to raise funds for the orphanage and get reacquainted with his family. At home his former love Helene (Sidse Babett Knudsen) has married a tycoon, Jorgen Hanson (Rolf Lassgard), someone Jacob is able to solicit funding with ease. Once they meet, he is invited to their daughter’s wedding. Much like `Rumor Has It’ with far less laughs, yet more substantive development, Jacob finds out at the reception that he has more at stake at home than he previously thought. From there he is reattached to deceptive Helene, and both must sort out the bitter resentment they feel for one another. (Did he have one affair as he says or was he the philanderer by her account?) Toasting her mother and step-father at the wedding, the bride Anna (Stine Fischer Christensen) later comes to grip with life-changing information in her own life.

Skillfully sorting out the relationships and priorities of the key players, `After the Wedding,’ presents a bitter-sweet story with memorable characters and interesting circumstances. One of the merits of the film is how it defines poverty in India and compares it with a different kind of impoverishment for the wealthy. Jorgan’s problems wouldn`t make us trade places with him for the world. Similarly, one of the boys at the orphanage reminds Jacob that he doesn’t even like the wealthy. Another ironically says, “If I were rich, I’d be happy.” Watching everyone come to grips with their lives and barter for stability make `After the Wedding` a revealing family portrait.

My husband had been asking me to watch this movie with him for years – it was one of his favorites (from before we met), even though he continually called it a “chick flick”… I was hesitant to watch it because I had the idea that it would be a sad movie – and I just don’t like movies that leave me blubbering & saddened for the rest of the day.

However, last weekend we finally sat down and watched it together, and I was pleasantly surprised! Although there was 1 or 2 parts that led me to cry, it was not what I would categorize as a “sad” movie – in fact, when I really think about it, it was quite uplifting…

“Fried Green Tomatoes” weaves the life experiences of 3 very different women – 2 of them lived their youth about 50 or 60 years ago, and one is currently 40 something years old.

The story revolves around an “old” woman who is sharing her & her friends life experiences with the younger, 40-something woman. This younger woman is quite depressed, feeling like a weakling who doesn’t really matter. She gains strength and a will to really LIVE through the stories shared with her. Spending time with the “old woman” becomes an important, life changing event for her – helping her to step-up and be the woman she truly wants to be.

This movie shows the importance of being willing to listen & learn from others – as well as the wealth of knowledge & experience that our elderly population has – if only we would take the time to engage them in discussion & listen to what they have to offer.

Overall, I give this movie “2 thumbs up”! If you’re at all interested in human growth, and the “good old days”, then this movie’s for you!

Every decade has its chick flicks that define those years and feature a who’s who of up-and-coming actresses mixed with veterans. In the 1980s, it was Steel Magnolias and in the 1990s it was Fried Green Tomatoes, a southern folktale based on the novel by Fannie Flagg (who also co-wrote the screenplay).

Fried Green Tomatoes is a beautiful shot film that really evokes the rich, lush setting of the Deep South. Director Jon Avnet also uses warm colours to create an inviting atmosphere that draws the audience in. There is real artistic integrity to the camerawork which gives the film a Classic Hollywood vibe.

Fried Green Tomatoes is the perfect lazy Sunday summer afternoon movie that evokes simpler times. The film makes us appreciate taking the time out of our busy lives to stop and smell the roses as it were. The film espouses a simple yet important message of tolerance and compassion towards one another but not in a preachy way. It is a message that is certainly applicable today (maybe even more so) making Fried Green Tomatoes even more relevant.

There are a collection of “Deleted Scenes” that are really just little bits of added footage tagged on at the end of or in-between scenes. There is nothing too memorable here.

Also included, is an amusing collection of “Outtakes,” featuring flubs and blown lines.

“Moments of Discovery: The Making of Fried Green Tomatoes” is an engaging, endearing retrospective documentary that runs just over an hour. Good news for fans is that Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker contribute new interviews and warmly recall filming anecdotes, including working in the intense Georgian heat, how Masterson really handled all those bees and Parker’s run-in with some nasty leeches. This is a must-watch for any fan of this movie.

“Sipsey’s Recipes” include actual recipes for over 15 dishes that are taken from Flagg’s book and that allow you to recreate the Whistle Stop Café’s cuisine. This is a really nice touch.

“Jon Avnet’s Director’s Notes” includes script excerpts with specific directions he used as a guide when making the movie.

There are “Production Photographs” that include behind-the-scenes pics of the delicious food and also the movie crew at work.

“Poster Campaign” features various poster designs for the movie, including some really nice hand-drawn ones that are quite artistic in nature.

Finally, there is an audio commentary by director Jon Avnet. He takes us through his filmmaking process switching back and forth between talking about the themes of the film and production anecdotes.

This series lasted for two seasons, from 1994 to 1996, for a total of 26 episodes. The first season was quite forgettable, both in terms of anecdote speak and animation quality. In one of the few instances of an titillating series being retooled in the middle of its race, the second season saw the point to rebuilt almost from the ground up, with the only similarity being the whine cast (although Brian Austin Green was replaced by Quinton Flynn as the Human Torch) . The animation was first rate, and stories were often taken directly from the comics work of Stan Lee & Jack Kirby and John Byrne. Of special imprint, the first episode of the season, “And a Blind Man Shall Lead Them,” guest-stars Daredevil. Later episodes in year 2 guest-starred Ghost Rider, The Much Thor, and even The Astonishing Hulk. The season finale is another Lee/Kirby adaptation and features the Silver Surfer. Bottom line, the sublime grandeur of the latter thirteen episodes of this plot makes it worth every cent. Not to be missed by any good Fanatic of the Unbelievable.

In the mid-90’s many of Marvel’s characters came to the dinky shroud on Saturday mornings after the success of X-men and Spiderman. One of those was Marvel’s very first group of Superheroes, the Fabulous Four. With the movie due to advance out in a few weeks, it’s expansive to have these episodes on DVD finally. The site contains all 26 episodes of the bustle. While I agree that the first season (And I have them on VHS because I am a geek) was deplorable to the second season, the first season is not without its merits, mainly in the presentation of the group’s origin as well as the two piece “Silver Surfer and the Coming of Galactus” episode. This is one of the key moments in Marvel’s silver age history and I notion they did a very nice job with it. I also enjoyed the Peer the Negative Zone episode as I loved the goofy villains Annihilus and Blaastar.

Doomsday is an adaption of one of my common stories as Dr. Doom captures the Silver Surfer and steals his power to battle the FF.

While the animation on the Astonishing Four wasn’t quite as valid as Spiderman or the X-men, it was detached stunning worthy and the exhibit really seemed to be hitting its trip when it ended after impartial two seasons. And of course this is vastly friendly to the two earlier cartoon versions of the 60’s and 70’s. Herbie the robot anyone?

A hazardous wedding of wholesome classic animation, to adult and often dark-themed material. The risk paid off and the result is one of the greatest achievements of Disney Studios.

The animation here is first rate and the entire thing is shot like a live-action film with some astounding long shots, expansive theatrical panning and even at one point, during Quasimodo’s song “Out There” a realistic camera flare (I did a double prefer the first time I saw it!) Hunchback is filled with all sorts of tall “tricks” like this. Lighting effects here are nothing short of comely – often subtle they sometimes change in an instant dramatically altering the mood of the fraction. Frodo’s demonic song “Hellfire” is perhaps one the most cross and shocking moments to emerge from Disney and the animators let loose.

The prologue to the movie alone is a minor masterpiece and, like Beauty and the Beast, marvelously prepares us for the whirlwind of a fable to catch space.

The complaints about the singing and dancing gargoyles Victor, Hugo and Laverne, are simply wrongheaded. I read the Hugo classic too, and know they’re not in there. What the complainants fail to realize is these gargoyles live only in Quasimodo’s imagination. He invented these companions to ease an otherwise tortured, lonely, friendless life. The culmination of all of this becomes definite in the spectacular song “A guy like you” which finishes with pigeons flying and hearts and banners and ribbons and Quasimodo being well-known and then BAM immediately upon the conclusion of the final notes, the room becomes the same dim, dank, splintering tower filled with relics, junk and heartbreak. It’s one of the movie’s most shattering effects.

While deserved praise goes to the animators and crew, the say talent here is, in my notion, Disney’s very best. Tom Hulce goes to the very soul of Quasimodo and gives a performance that is as poignant and shattering as anything he has done (Hulce also happened to be the best Hamlet I’ve ever seen.) Distinct lines (”I am a monster, you know”) will ring in my ear forever. Hulce has a radiant bellow and renders “Out there” with such abandon and vigor it makes my hair stand on ruin. In the tranquil “Heaven’s light” (which sequences into a elegant shot of the bells frantically ringing the opening theme), Hulce brings a fragility to such lines as “no face as plain as my face, was ever meant for Heaven’s light” that only a heart of stone would not be moved. Switching from pathos to rage, Hulce lets us feel the hidden rage and concern that this character also possesses. It is a truly grand performance.

Demi Moore, Kevin Kline, Tony Jay, Paul Kandel – and the rest of the cast all sound at the top of their game creating fabulous and radiant characters.

Alan Menkin and Stephen Schwartz score to the heart of the matter with fetch and songs – a sound – that are as integral a share of the telling of this record as the animation and voices.

Hunchback is a miracle of a movie!

It would not be hard to inspect a more difficult narrative line for Disney to adapt on shroud than Victor Hugo’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, but that doesn’t mean it was a flow in the park either. Not only is there the conundrum of how to manufacture Quasimodo correct to his character and at the same time not so unpleasant in appearance as to frighten off youngsters, but how will Victor Hugo’s black commentary of 15th Century Parisian life, capital punishment and religious bigotry be accommodated? What of Claude Frollo’s lascivious desires for Esmerelda and wanton acts upon Quasimodo and gypsies? And that ending…a bit of a downer don’t you deem? Well, fill it or not, Disney stays suitable to each of these facets of the modern…with the exception of the tragic conclusion, of course.

Talking gargoyles aside, the film really does not do enough to accommodate young viewers (and perhaps it was a mistake to market this as a kid’s movie, but you got to sell those Burger King toys somehow!) . The villain (Frollo) is among the most detestable characters ever portrayed in a Disney movie, and unlike Jafar (”Alladin”) or Hades (”Hercules”), there is nothing funny about him. On the other hand, the animators went a limited overboard with Quasimodo, who kinda looks like a red-headed Chris Farley. And Phoebus has the personality of Al Gore…if he were any more wooden you’d have to check him for termites. Also, some very piquant characters from the book are regrettably absent. Where’s Pierre Gringoire, Jehan Frollo, and Sister Gudule? Tranquil, the animation is breathtaking, and the finale is nearly flawless…preferred to fresh version if you’re a sentimental fan of overjoyed endings.

The movie contains a few hilarious subliminal references, as when Quasimodo (Tom Hulce) is dressed up briefly as Amadeus. The music is astounding and supports the film’s most compelling scenes: Esmerelda singing “God Abet The Outcasts” while taking sanctuary in the cathedral, the counterpoint of Quasimodo’s “Heaven’s Light” to Frollo’s “Hell Fire,” and the heart-pumping catch tedious the finale. Probably would have been given a PG rating if not for Eisner’s influence over MPAA.

I first saw “Gorgo” as a kid, when it was released theatrically in 1961–in fact, I went to peruse it several times. To this day, it is one of my favourite “giant monster on the loose” films. I converse the quickest device to relate “Gorgo”

is to say that this was Britain’s acknowledge to Godzilla, Japan’s iconic creature of destruction. However, I quiet bag “Gorgo” several cuts above most films of this type.

Two rather unscrupulous divers/salvagers (Bill Travers and William Sylvester) rob a expansive, prehistoric beast (it looks like an over-sized, aquatic T-Rex) off the cruise of Ireland. Ignoring pleas from the Irish government and scientists who want to peruse this astonishing animal, our two “heroes” are more involved in someone who will “display me the money!” That “someone” is a circus-owner in London, where the creature is set aside on note for the ticket-buying public. However, when scientists do their homework, they enact that this “gargantuan” animal is really objective a baby! Could there be a parent somewhere? You bet! “Mom” appears–all 200 feet of her–mad as hell, and headed straight for London. Can the Royal Navy close her? Fuggedaboutit! The Airforce? Unbiased like swatting flies! The Army? They might as well exhaust pea-shooters! “Mom” reaches London–trashes the Tower Bridge, Spacious Ben, Piccadilly Circus etc. before rescuing junior. Memo to Man–don’t mess with Mother Nature!

One reason that “Gorgo” is obedient to similar films is the cast. Travers and Sylvester are both reliable actors, although child-star, Vincent Winter, steals every scene he is in. Eagle-eyed film buffs will also state Nigel Green for about five seconds. For 1961, I would rate the special effects as well above average. While both creatures are “men in suits”, careful editing ensures that your sense of idea can serene be suspended. The model work is particularly good–the scenes of destruction are very effective for a 45-year archaic film. The cinematography is righteous, hardly surprising when you stare that Freddie Young was responsible. Angelo Lavagnino’s music derive is also to be praised.

“Gorgo” was directed by Eugene Lourie, the third of his “giant lizard trilogy”. In 1953, Mr. Lourie unleashed the first film in this genre, “The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms” (with a lot of encourage from the king of stop-motion animation, Ray Harryhausen), and in 1958 he attacked us with “The Giant Behemoth”. “Gorgo”, however, was the only one in colour.

The quality of this DVD is excellent–widescreen, nice colour. For years I had to suffer with an bad VHS tape–even two different laserdiscs were not a major improvement. The DVD also includes an bright behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the film, a photo gallery and several biographies. Kudos to VCI also for the cute menu–I will not spoil it for would-be purchasers–let’s impartial say that the scene of London has been “updated”!

For reasons of personal nostalgia, I would give this DVD 4 1/2 stars. Younger viewers, frail to CGI wizardry, may obtain the title monsters a bit quaint, but this is a comely film, well acted and the finale is refreshingly different to many such movies. If you like “creature features”, “Gorgo” belongs in your collection. Recommended.

I saw Gorgo when it was first released in the movies in 1960 and I’m probably the movie’s biggest fan. This ‘Destruction Edition’ release by VCI is the first serious print of the movie to be sold. The bonfire scene on Nara Island where Gorgo makes his first appearance is restored to visual perfection. It looks like it was actually printed from the negative as do many other scenes in this release. It seems like all the criticism heaped on VCI for releasing the foul previous version with its come unlit scenes paid off. The fans of Gorgo, which are many, deserved and got this restoration. Unfortunately the glee I felt initially with seeing Gorgo finally restored was short lived when the most bizarre thing occurred.

I began to witness the soundtrack was cheaply tampered with in an attempt to guess ‘enhance it’. Now mind you I have seen probably ten different video releases of Gorgo all of which had bad print quality but the movie’s soundtrack was never ruined or doctored in any intention. Now finally we have a decent restoration of the print and what happens some genius at VCI instead of impartial enhancing the volume of Gorgo which has one of the greatest soundtracks in monster movie history

, they determine instead to do the unthinkable and tamper with it by adding the tinny uninteresting shout veteran in the DVD screensaver and drowning out the masterful novel monster sounds in the movie. They also add echoes and assorted sirens and machine gun fire. So you hear machine guns in a scene where three guys are shooting with rifles. These baffling alterations undo mighty of the vast visual restoration VCI made an admirable anguish to effect and I have to say extinguish the outcome making many key scenes seem to drop out of synch. It’s an annoying distraction that sabotages the robust power and roam the movie’s sound is known for. A classic is a a classic because of it’s special novel qualities that the public loves about them, the best we can do is retain them not change them. Not to mention the violations of artistic ethics and integrity. Imagine changing King Kong’s sob or Fay Wray’s wail.

Oh well,maybe this will plot up the release of a VCI corrected version. We’ll pick it.

This is an lively episode in the Godzilla saga. Once again TOHO has re-written Godzilla’s past. In this legend, Huge G has not been seen since 1954, but everyone has a funky feeling he’ll return one day. And he does. But this time, there are three Guardian Monsters- Baragon, Ghidorah, and Mothra- to discontinuance him.

This is a very mystical film that may be hard to fathom by American audiences. For example, Godzilla is powered by the souls of those who lost their lives in the Pacific War. So he is now a force of vengence, and not a “force of nature” as stressed in previous movies. Terrible guy Ghidorah is now a kindly guy. Baragon is a lame monster. TOHO won’t learn- 4 legged monsters objective don’t work (it’s distinct the man inside is walking around on all fours) .

One thing that really sets this apart is that Godzilla is seen killing people. Folks accept trampled, burned, and buried under rubble and earth by Tremendous G. This Zilla has a unpleasant attitude.

I’ve seen the situation 3 disc of this film and I must instruct you all. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GODZILLA MOVIES EVER MADE! The opening credit sequence sets the tone nicely giving terminate up shots of the monster’s skin as if displaying their battle armor. The first battle between Godzilla and Baragon is a gargantuan kaiju battle! Godzilla literally knocks through a hillside to battle Baragon killing the people below! Urge and screen because he means business! Its unprejudiced very well filmed and choreographed and the musical catch does the film justice. Incredible stuff!

Godzilla has more of a dinosaur-like inspect to him but I have never seen Godzilla be more unfavorable since the shaded and dismal new. If you like Godzilla then this film is an absolute must have.

This is a bit more of a serious fable than you might normally put a question to. They do a fairly decent job of retelling the chronicle of St. Nicholas without getting into the ramifications of the unique day sage.

But this video is calm laughable. Most of the humor comes from Larry, who keeps exasperating Bob by trying to fit the narrative into the Santa fable. Of course, the costumes Mr. Lunt wears as he helps Nicholas in the second half are laugh out loud comical as well. Especially the second one.

Speaking of whom, Mr. Lunt does the amusing song this go around. “Donuts for Benny” starts out fun but gets natty comic at the ruin. I loved it! I issue the music reminded me of a classic Christian song, but I couldn’t station which one it was.

The music is vast on this video as a whole. There are several recent songs, but they also parody Christmas classics like “Deck the Halls” and “Jingle Bells.”

While a tad more on the serious side, this is a staunch gem. Glean this now, and your family will luxuriate in it for years to advance.

this can really commence up doors for a separation between what has become Santa and the roots of St. Nicholas.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because of the imagined snow and the sheep that became like reindeer.. i really reflect they stretched it too worthy and I’m not distinct that younger kids will be able to separate it out between what is being imagined and what they are really trying to recount about the accurate account.

When I came across this documentary on PBS I was left quite breathless. The context of the documentary, the visual imagery, and the “texture” of the survival mode these women are in truly will inspire you to like some of the simple pleasures we retract for granted in life. Moreover, the staff at the Fistula Hospital were extraordinary, committed, and compassionate. Mind you, I’m an American writing about this from our world, one with HMOs rushing patients through the system, where the medical establishment continues to slowly capitulate to the private interests of profit, where we have no nationalized health care.

Existentially, A Straggle to Resplendent also shows how medical institutions runned by compassion-based medics obtain recent meanings for those whose lives have been completely scripted for them by patriarchy and ageless traditions that cannot retain up with the realities and stimuli of twenty-first century poverty and destitution.

My celebrated scenes? When Ayehu was cured and she walks through the forest to go home. The human spirit shone nicely through her posture, determination and grit. When I showed this documentary to my class my students (I’m a male professor), female and yes, male students, were left breathless. Almaz lecturing her husband after the surgery was astounding, as was Wubete’s unusual found joy with the children of Grace Village, especially her comments on Iyassu, “who pouts”.

Many of my students wrote me afterward saying how this documentary changed their lives. I also wanted to add that the music in the film sounded authentically from the status (with the exception of the syncopated “Fantastic Grace” at the raze of the documentary) . There were some hymns and melodies that were highly appropriate since they approach from the radiant exclaim of Ejigayehu “Gigi” Shibabaw, a world-renown Ethiopian artist. Eye this documentary. Smith and Bucher, along with their team, captured a depth of humanity in a context that was refreshing, deep, and profound. A Scurry to Blooming will alter your consciousness forever…

I saw this film originally on T.V. May 13 on Nova. The stories of the affected women made me weep. What a unfriendly existence they had been left to, until they were able to catch to the special hospital. I also cried for them tears of joy when they were “cured” of their injuries. This was a heartwrenching film, one every woman/mother should peruse. We are so lucky to live where we do and have access to such enormous health care. I would like to acquire this DVD when it is released because I would like many of my friends and family to study it and encourage with donations to this cause.

The editor’s review of this film is a glowing enough description of the site. One should add that, despite being made in 1971, the movie manages not to explore dated, precisely because it makes such fun of the early 70s style, and that the acting by the three main characters (Harold, Maude and Harold’s mother) is simply inspired. Ruth Gordon is beautiful of course, while Bud Cort gives a lifetime performance, but it is the portrayal of Harold’s mother by Vivian Pickles (what a delicate name for someone in the role) that has to be the most undercelebrated aspect of this film. Her breezy blitheness, outraged exasperation, and British sensibility are all fair too unbelievable. Filling out a dating questionnaire for her son, in response to the put a question to “Do you collect the belief of wife-swapping offensive” she answers, “I accumulate the query offensive.” In response to the examine, “Do you feel the women’s liberation movement has gone too far,” she replies, “It cer-tain-ly has.” Even “Harold, eat your beets” is delivered so wonderfully that it’s memorable. Eric Christmas also makes the bit-part of a priest into something memorable, principally by one pleasing monologue.

NOTE: It’s been pointed out that a lot of the situation is given away in the following. It’s hard to say how great spoilers actually spoil this movie; spoilers may benefit to form the movie’s wisdom more readily apparent on a first viewing. In any case, there are several ahead.

But is this really a shadowy comedy? Personally, I consider of dim comedies as being morbid and mordant, which Harold & Maude certainly has elements of, but also ultimately cynical. One should not mistake grimness in a film as a trace of nihilism; as the Japanese proverb runs, the ending is all-important. The film ultimately is not about an intergenerational appreciate affair (surely the most “gross” aspect of the film), but about Harold learning to embrace life. And it is precisely to obtain as effective as possible Harold’s decision to live life to the fullest (rather than continue to acquire to be wearisome) that it is first primary to beget his life dismal.

As insanely comical as considerable of the movie is, it is also elephantine of profundity after profundity from Maude, who is a nearly continuous font of wisdom, with laughter and humor being simply the most crucial values in her wisdom. The scene of Harold’s misfortune after Maude’s death, intercutting peaceful images of him waiting in a hospital room and driving recklessly around the Marin headlands in the Jaguar he has converted into a hearse while Cat Steven’s song, “Peril” plays, is very well-done and sets up the climax of the film beautifully. Cat Steven’s soundtrack throughout, in fact, is a ravishing selection of songs, and certainly makes obvious that, however morbid things might seem, this film is ultimately life-affirming in a very profound draw.

Having watched this movie many, many times and having yet to tire of it, it seems to me there is more to it than meets the study. And not fair because, when Harold gives Maude an engraved birthday gift, she says, “This is the nicest gift anyone has given me in a long time,” and then throws it into the San Francisco Bay saying, “That procedure, I’ll always know where it is.” And not fair because one eventually notices, in the briefest of passing shots, the tattoo of a concentration camp inmate on Maude’s arm. In the final analysis, it seems to me that Harold is actually already slow. That his theatrical suicides aren’t faked at all, but also don’t succeed because he himself is not aware that he’s actually insensible. It’s probably more upright to say that the director pushes the story to the point where Harold seems to be actually unimaginative and not unbiased faking, precisely to gain his choice of life at the ruin all the more keen.

And keen it is. Harold & Maude is not (alas) for everyone. A viewer who is hidebound like the movie’s priest, colonel or mother (read church, spot, authority) will accept Maude’s sometimes gentle, sometimes brash mocking of convention more annoying than enlightening, impartial as the (not depicted) sexual relationship between Harold and Maude is the thing many people who miss the point remember about the movie. To this, Maude might say, as she does to a police officer, “Don’t be officious. You’re not yourself when you’re officious. That’s the curse of a government job.” Or as she says, when the priest replies that he didn’t like the arrangement she’d painted his statue of the Virgin Mary, “Give it time. It’ll grow on you. Some things choose a while to like.”

I had heard about this movie through friends but was never impressed by the myth. A reclusive anti social kid who befriends and falls in cherish with an elderly (though young at heart) eccentric. I wrote it off completely til I saw a bit of it on television and understanding it was hilarious and as it turns out I rented the movie and was extremely twisted. Harold is a rich kid with a high strung, selfish mother who tries anything to net a suitor for him, in turn Harold escapes from his home to overshadow funeral processions and memorials. At a number of these events, Maude is in attendence and she lights up the scene with her off the wall,and positively upbeat personality that horrifies and amuses Harold. After a while they become unlikely friends. Maude helps Harold live a diminutive and in turn he develops moral affection to Maude. With Ruth Gordon’s charm and amazing acting abilites, and Cat Steven’s classy soundtrack, its not hard to regain yourself feeling jubilant and free after the movie is over. It really teaches you a message about being your acquire person and enjoying life.
